What We Are Reading - December 2021

We love books :)

There’s a lot of super nerdy people working behind the scenes in the strategy and creation of Failure Lab Training. Self-development is OUR LIFE. We legit love this stuff and are constantly consuming anything and everything that the field has to offer on the subject.

But seriously, with all the research and reading that is going on behind the scenes, we feel an ethical obligation to push forward the “best of” remix of content that we love and that we hope will ultimately help you better understand yourself and the tools you need to become the best, most effective and aligned version of yourself.

SO, if you’re looking to treat yo-self or someone else this holiday season, here’s a few books we loved in 2021.

Insight (Tasha Eurich): Reflection, rumination and ultimately self-awareness is at the center of any training we do at Failure Lab. The really real is that while most of us genuinely believe we are self-aware, it’s actually an incredibly rare quality. Only 10-15% of us actually fit the criteria (whomp, whomp). This book is one of the best evidenced-back resources on self-awareness out there. It’s a super easy read, very practical and will change the way you think about how you think about yourself (woah - meta!)

Chatter (Ethan Kross): We talk to ourselves more than almost anyone else...aAnd damn that self-talk (aka Chatter) can tank our mood, our health, our connection and cause us to fold under pressure.  Guess what is super likely to trigger some self-talk?? Failure. Good news! We’re in control of how we talk to ourselves, and we likely already have the tools to get our inner voice to work in our favor. This book really digs into the hard work of retraining your inner voice - HIGHLY recommend!!

Cassandra Speaks (Elizabeth Lesser): If you know us here at Failure Lab, you know that we are full-on passionate about providing resources for women in leadership and we have strong opinions about the subject. Elevating female leadership and wisdom is NOT about making women more like men. It is about embracing the power and importance of many perspectives and skills. This book is amazingly aligned with our core beliefs. The crazy-compelling tagline for this book is, “When women are the storytellers, the human story changes.” If that doesn’t pull you in and make you want to read this book…….what the heck?!?!?

Atlas of The Heart (Brene Brown): Have we read this one yet? To be honest.. No. Do we bet it’s amazing and we’re likely to fold in some key ideas into our 2022 content. Hell yes. Just get it.
